Westmont Montessori School

Westmont is a truly incredible community, we have 4 children at the school and they love going to school each day. The Montessori approach allows my children the ability to move about the classroom and follow their interests. They're active outside every day, and get to explore witty's lagoon. We couldn't be happier.

I would like to thank Westmont for the amazing 3 years we had at the school.When we moved to Canada 5 y ago, Lucca was struggling at the public school.As a Montessori kid in Brazil, he had a hard time until he got accepted by Westmont.We will be forever grateful for a wonderful job you did.Amazing staff, caring teachers. My son joined Westmont in Middle school and is now in the High school. It continues to be an incredible experience for him. The Middle and High school students achieve a high academic standard while also building study skills, life skills, and a strong community. The school community - students, teachers, staff and parents - is everything you'd expect from a school that lives its values. Carry on being amazing Westmont!

Westmont Montessori is an amazing school located in a spectacular location close to nature; a forest with walking trails, a waterfall and a beautiful beach! The in-class education is excellent. The children are taught to be respectful citizens of the world. The drawback is that the school is missing a gym or large gathering space for assemblies.

Westmont is a lovely little school that backs onto a beautiful picturesque Vancouver Island beach with a waterfall! The teachers here are what make it so incredibly special. The connections that my 2 children have had with the staff here have been key to molding them into the magnificent kiddos they are today. Some of my favourites are: loads of outdoor time, children are treated with respect, pets in many classrooms & strong community. I have always loved that it’s a child led environment where they get to choose their own work, be independent but also work in groups. We are thankful for the opportunity to continue at Westmont with our little one :))

My son was stabbed with a pencil twice, picked on, shoved and verbally abused. The bully received no real consequences. When I q’d the teaching staff I was constantly told he was doing well and they were handling the issue. They would not tell me what they were doing to address the issue due to privacy? I found out he was behind in reading all year after I’d asked 3 times about reading during the yr and told he was on track every time. I asked if the bully was going to be moved to another class they said no, I asked about what happens next year and they said the kids usually grow out of it. They seemed annoyed that I was asking q’s and although I was not pushy or rude in anyway they would not make conversation with me even in the parent teacher interview.They moved the bully after I brought a drs note as our dr was very concerned about my son and now we have to deal With counselling for him.The staff accused me of abusing the daycare because they thought I didn’t need to use it.I’ve met many other parents with similar issues plus more. I know a handful of families leaving this year and some after next year because they’ve already committed. There are better Montessori schools in this area that are cheaper with trained staff. (I heard from a teacher many of the staff were not Montessori trained).Westmont sits on a beautiful piece of land, but after kindergarten the kids don’t get to see it as often. One of my sons major issues when going into grade one was that they didn’t go outside as often. We were told there was ample amounts of outside time which is one of the reasons we chose this school. We also found that in grade1 for some reason they have recess and lunch back to back. So my son would begin to starve in the morning waiting too long for a break, snack, go outside for a short stint, back inside to eat, then outside again.We have done Westmont camps for 2yrs in a row. Despite sending a cooler of icy cold drinks and food, My kids came home every day the hottest week of the year burnt, hot and annoyed. They were promised water fights and slip and slides and didn’t get it. So much like the rest of the school the summer camps were also a waste of $.horrible experience for my kids and so many others that we know. The public schools here have more up to date technology, more outside time and an anti bullying policy that is actually enforced.

Our daughter has attended West-mont Montessori from pre-school up to grade 11. Next year she will become the first ever graduate from the excellent high school program.I cannot express enough how impressed my wife and I are with the level of learning and the sense of community that the Montessori program delivers.My daughter's teachers have not only been amazing teachers, they've also been amazing people.Highly recommend!

Absolutely amazing Montessori School. My son started Grade 1 in September, on his second day of school he said he wants to be a teacher at Westmont, so he will stay there until he's grown up. I could notice a huge improvement on his cognitive skills, behaviour and academic performance, in such a short time.School is surrounded by nature (forest, waterfall and beach), where kids can enjoy and explore very often. Students, staff and teachers are very kind and welcoming.

This school is awesome. My son loves going to school everyday, I love getting his pictures & updates through the app and his teachers and EA are caring and sweet. We are happy that our child is having a great experience at school.

Westmont is a fantastic private school located in the perfect natural backdrop of the Witty Lagoon, and we couldn't be happier with the teachers and the community we have found for the past few years since our son has been enrolled there. Leaving your 2.5 year old anywhere for a few hours every day is not easy (on the parents, that is!), but the teachers have shown us so much support throughout the first year. The Montessori philosophy is such a great tool for growing" all around great humans: the strong academic education is just the cherry on the cake
